Auto compensation stepped series reactor
Introduction
The reactive power compensation in electric power system widely adopts switchingon-off shunt capacitor banks as dynamic reactive power compensation device forlimiting flow. Each set of capacitor should be equipped with a set of seriesreactors with 6% reactance rate.

The equipment need large occupied area and high cost because each set ofcapacitors needs to be equipped with a set of series reactors. Reactors withtap can replace the original multi-bank series reactor to reduce neededoccupied area and save cost. Taking three sets of “On-off” capacitors as anexample: if one set of series reactors with tap is used to replace the originalthree sets, it has to work with a no-load switch for switching which causeon-line regulating become impossible.
The new type automatic compensation stepped series reactor takes place ofthe original series reactor with taps and can be connected with 2 sets of capacitorbank. This reduces the number and the occupied area of series reactor and alsorealizes automatic grouping “On-off” of capacitor under working condition. Integratedautomation of substation also becomes possible. It is a reactive compensation renewalproduct of substation for grid voltage improving.
Application
The product is mainly used in power system and work together with groupingon-off capacitor banks to form a dynamic reactive compensation device. It has advantagesof small occupied are, low cost, energy saving, and widely use in power system.The product realizes the integrated control of voltage reactive-power ofsubstation. It also ensures power supply voltage quality and power factorrequirement. All these features achievethe goal of reducing energy loss, decreasing voltage fluctuation and improvingequipment utilization.
